In *City of the Devil*, young Clarinha watches her sister Amalia at a Rio favela party, hiding her own secret attraction while admiring Amalia’s confidence. The celebration is violently interrupted by Zé “Beelzebub” and his Anjos Caídos gang, who systematically assault the female guests, forcing Clarinha to witness Amalia’s brutal public rape and prolonged torture.
