Following the execution of Yueyan, whose head was sent to the Bian family altar, the magistrate subjected Zijuan to a ritualistic eighteen-cut execution, repeatedly reviving her to ensure the full sentence was carried out. Old Mrs. Xue, restrained by her doctor, arrived too late and collapsed and died upon witnessing the severed heads displayed on the city wall. The tragic story was recorded by the disillusioned Magistrate Lu Dachang, who retired to write the tale known as the 'Ode to the Autumn Wind'.
